In Good Hands

Me: So, Scout, what did you do in [theater] camp today?

Scout: Oh, we ran around in traffic for a while, got hit by cars, went to the hospital, had lunch, came back, and then mom picked me up. Same as every day.

Me: It’s just you and me tonight… what would you like to eat?
Scout: Is this lunch or dinner?
Me: Dinner.
Scout: Can it be lunch?
Me: I… guess so.
Scout: I already had lunch. So I don’t want any.
Me: So… are you hungry?
Scout: Yes.
Me: Would you like… dinner?
Scout: Yes, that would be great. Thanks, dad!
Me: I don’t understand this conversation.
