Martin<\/p>\n<p>A lot of the reviews of books 4 and 5 complain that these books are &#8220;uneventful&#8221; compared to the first three, and they often center around new areas of the world, far from the areas where most of the first three books take place.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know what these folks are talking about.<\/p>\n<p>Four and five were just as good as the first three.  And sure, Martin is piling on more characters and cities and complicated storylines.  But really, that&#8217;s part of what&#8217;s so great about these books: the richness, depth and variety of storytelling going on.  There are dozens of protagonists and antagonists, and often times both in the same character.  You can never count on your favorite character to survive, because Martin kills off so many and introduces new ones all the time, and there are half a dozen different ways to die but not be dead (though many of them are not enviable).<\/p>\n<p>Really good writing, breathtaking scope of world-building, super complicated political intrigue and cool action sequences&#8230; what&#8217;s not to like?<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s going to be a long three years or so until Book 6 comes out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Dance with Dragons (A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 5) by George R.R.
