{"id":355,"date":"2005-11-16T18:04:00","date_gmt":"2005-11-16T18:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/journal.electric-rocket.com\/?p=355"},"modified":"2025-04-24T17:46:03","modified_gmt":"2025-04-24T17:46:03","slug":"book-log-the-truth-with-jokes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/journal.electric-rocket.com\/?p=355","title":{"rendered":"Book Log &#8211; The Truth (with Jokes)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>The Truth (with Jokes)<\/i> by Al Franken<\/p>\n<p>While my politics don&#8217;t neatly fall into any catagory (<lj user=glenn5> calls me a &#8220;libertarian not worth his salt&#8221; because I believe in legalizing just about everything but keeping fire departments and probably public schools<sup>1<\/sup>), I enjoy me some Al Franken.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s interesting is that his political books are getting progressively more serious.  <i>Rush Limbaugh<\/i> was 75% wacky\/25% serious political discussion.  <i>Liars<\/i> about 50\/50.<\/p>\n<p>This one is about 85% serious critique of the current administration.  The title is very apt.  Serious discussion with a few jokes thrown in<sup>3<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>I enjoyed it, and found it interesting.  He makes a jest about running for congress, but after reading the book I wonder how much of a jest it is.  It almost seems like he&#8217;s repositioning himself as a serious politician.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, good read.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;-<br \/>\n<font size=-1><br \/>\n<sup>1<\/sup> I just spent 20 minutes trying to find a journal entry where I discussed my opinions on public schools that I could link to.  Why on earth doesn&#8217;t LiveJournal have a search engine that would help me with that<sup>2<\/sup>?<br \/>\n<sup>2<\/sup>See how demanding I get when I&#8217;m a paid user?  I&#8217;m insufferable.<br \/>\n<sup>3<\/sup>Al says there are only 2.
