Someone posted this data on a Fool discussion board, and lamented the poor state of savings in our country.

It is kind of scary. When Social Security goes, who’s going to take care of these folks? Do I need to start saving for their retirement, too?
*sigh*
If you add all the numbers together, and then multiply by 3, that’d be a pretty good retirement.
Now I’m scared too.
Not to worry. The alien overlords will thin out the sick and the elderly within the first 10 days of their rule, savings or no.
That sounds pretty good.
Do they have a good 401k plan?
their roth IRA is the best i’ve been told. you know that makes me really glad that when i was 16 my dad offered to match me dollar for dollar until i was on my own if i started savign right then. I’m going to retire by the time i’m 50. thankyou dad
But will your dad be able to retire?
he is so there
Whew. ‘Cause, man, wouldn’t you feel guilty if he couldn’t? 🙂
tru dat brother
*sigh*
At least the median numbers are positive – I wouldn’t have been surprised if, with our negative savings rate, that a good chunk of us had negative equity as well.
Slightly off-topic, but I’ve been debating whether to subscribe to the TMF Stock Advisor. Would you recommend it? (I take it you’re a Hidden Gems fan – how’s that working out for you?)
Thanks!
Judy
I’m not a member of Stock Advisor, but I’m a big fan of the Fool in general. I’ve learned a heck of a lot, and I’m much better off than I was when I started surfing there 4+ years ago.
My Hidden Gems subscription has paid for itself roughly 26x over.
