I’ve been trying to figure out how much meat and cheese to ask for each week when getting lunch fixings. 1/4 lbs? 1/2 lbs? Can I ask for 0.40 lbs?
Then it struck me… why not ask for a number of slices.
Well, duh. Stupid stupid stupid.
They don’t teach us this stuff in engineering school.
The reverse is funny too.
On a weekend while feeding a hundred people, my Mom was given a shopping list that included deli meat and cheese by the hundreds of slices. This was a church thing that happened every quarter, but nobody had ever figured out the weight of the stuff so the deli folks didn’t have to count it all out.
Well, mom did, but she was always very practical.
