I’ve been fairly Consumed with Important Things of late.
But, by far the most important is that weeRocket,
I had heard the reviews were bad, that the kids’ll like it, but it will fall flat for the adults. I had heard rumors that it was going to be Pixar’s first flop. I wouldn’t have faulted Pixar for it. Everyone stumbles.
The plot looked weak, basically a remake of Doc Hollywood except with cars.
But the fact of the matter is… I thought it rocked. I laughed out loud a lot. I even teared up at the end. And I have little interest in cars or car racing.
The thing I should’ve realized is that none of the Pixar plots are really revolutionary. It’s all in how they tell the story.
And man, they can tell a story.
Auto pile-up
Yeah, I think there’s a lot of critical ganging-up on ‘Cars’ that seems misplaced. I don’t think it’s as good as Nemo, Incredibles or Toy Story 2, but I still like it. Haven’t taken Sweetness yet, tho.
Re: Auto pile-up
Nemo may be the greatest children’s movie ever, so I’m okay with it not beating that.
Incredibles may be the greatest animated adult’s movie ever, so I’m okay with it not beating that.
Toy Story 2 is pretty darn rockin’, and extraordinary because it’s a sequel that beats the original, so I’m okay with it not beating that.
But I’d put Cars on a par with Toy Story and Monster’s, Inc., with A Bug’s Life trailing the pack by a length.
Not that you asked.
In all honesty, Ro’s interest started to fade towards the end.
I agree with everything you said about Cars. Except for that part about how it rocked.
(Yeah, it was cute, but I liked The Incredibles more. Born-again boy loved it, though.)
I have thoughtfully ranked the Pixar movies in a previous comment, for your convenience.
