I had been waiting for it, and it happened when I wasn’t paying attention.

This product is built using high-resolution e-ink, which is a technology that is basically paper coated with a special ink that can be turned on and off.
This is actually an explosive technology to my way of thinking… I’m surprised I haven’t heard more about it in the news.
Aside from creating superior displays (low power, as readable as regular paper), consider that you can create sheets of paper that can be run through a printer, and then re-run through a printer, and re-run, and so on, each time showing no evidence of the previous print. No ink! No toner! Perfect recycling!
My head spins.
Jesus on the eternal pony.
I want one.
I need one.
I hear ya’ sister.
Speaking of technology, David doesn’t know Dreamweaver, but he was thinking of taking an Evening at Emory course this fall. Maybe you guys could be study-buddies! Don’t cheat.
I remember reading about this in Wired several years ago.
Then I met someone from MIT who was working at eink and was down at Georgia Tech using some of their equipment. I think she was one of the start-up employees, she was very cool, and made it sound like it was inevitable that our lives would be changed by this stuff, and soon.
I’m ecstatic that it’s happening.
I just can’t figure out who to invest in. Philips, I think.
Didn’t you work for them many moons ago? Irony!
Panasonic, but close. One of those “P” companies.
Oops, faulty memory.
They got it down to $99 per unit?
Until then, it is going to be a geek gadget.
(Doesn’t stop me from coveting it.)
Sony is coming out with theirs this summer, but this one is a european product, running about 600 Euros, I think.
So, not quite there yet. But… it’s coming.
You can buy a development kit and make your own for $3000.
I predict that it won’t go mainstream until they can hit that price point. It will start to be adopted at $149 or so, but you won’t find one on every bus and meeting room until they go under $100.
I’ll go along with that.
I got in on the Palm Pilot craze at around $300 because my then-girlfriend-future-wife was trying to lure me with expensive Xmas presents.
It worked, as you see.
Ah, but you are a geek, as am I. $200-$300 is probably the price point for us.
Sure, but Stacey’ll be upset if I get another girlfriend.
So, I’ll just have to wait.
My head spins.
I thought you had a new icon for that.
Crap! You’re right! I’m going to change it now.
