First Among Sequels by Jasper Fforde
The fifth Thursday Next novel.
Fforde turns self-reference up to 11 as Thursday Next is training innacurately-written fictional Thursday Nexts from the first five books (including the non-existent The Samuel Pepys Fiasco) to become Jurisfiction Agents, with a subplot about time travel.
Enjoyable mind candy.
Came over here on a prompt from Skip in reference to a story about smuggling poodles.
Saw this post.
I absolutely LOVE the Thursday Next Books. I hadn’t met anyone else who had read them other than people I I passed them along to to read. I haven’t read the fifth one yet. I really can’t wait.
Did you read The Big Over Easy? I so, what did you think of it?
Oh, mind if I add you?
Errrummm… I’m delighted to friend you, but you’re going to be sorely disappointed with the smuggled poodle “story”. I shall try to make it up to you in future posts, though.
I enjoyed Book 5. You shall, too. Oh, yes, you shall. How can you not? There is no way.
I have not read The Big Over Easy. Worth it?
I am conflicted.
It was a decent read. It wasn’t as good as the Thursday Next books. At points I felt Fforde was really reaching to get the fairy tale connection. But there are several very nice “groaner” jokes and references.
