Tomorrow I will be celebrating my birthday by arriving looking like a 42-year-old ought to look, happy to be alive, knowing that in a lot of ways, I’ve got the world by the tail. There may or may not be cake. But I’m thinking there will be pancakes for supper. And smoked salmon for lunch. And possibly some sweet tea. Tonight there was Pad Thai, because it’s the night before my birthday and I felt the need to start early, after getting my birthday brow wax.
I don’t know if I love pancakes or smoked salmon more. If I were only within striking distance, I would have you over for bagels and nova and pancakes with your choice of filling. You definitely don’t want me in charge of the cake, though.
What’s wrong with you being in charge of the cake? I’m pretty equal opportunity when it comes to cake enjoyment. The only kind I don’t particularly like is German Chocolate – other than that, I’m more or less game.
I’m with you on German Chocolate cake. I can’t abide shredded coconut.
I probably could make a tasty cake from a mix. But I am no baker. At all. I’m willing to bet you know at least 15 people who can bake a better cake than I. That said, if you don’t I would certainly add a mix cake to the… mix.
I love a good coconut cake. I don’t like boiled sugar frosting, though. Blech.
I’m a fine baker (runs in the family), but I’m also really, really good at knowing where to order great cakes from and am a great fan of picking up the phone and doing so. Ask Stacey – I can flat come up with a cake when the need arises.
There’s a lot of heartache in a scratch cake, you know. When I make one, I like to leave myself plenty of time to make another one, just in case, because you just never know.
There seems to be a rumor circulating that today is my birthday.
But I always appreciate good wishes.
How exciting! I love a good birthday. How are you celebrating yourself?

Happy Birthday!
A little bird named LiveJournal was telling me all about it, in a little dialog box.
