Detoxing after tonight’s Scandal!… it was a good one. If I had my doubts about the sustainability of Chris Blair playing Ted Nugent, they were certainly quelled after the first scene.
Apropos of nothing… names.
My brother’s full name is Justin Ray Lucas. My full name is Ryan Jay (Colosa) Lucas. My parents thought the Jay/Ray thing was neat.
I have decided that my next child should have a middle name that starts with a D. First one who can tell me why wins a valuable No Prize1.
On the way to Scandal! and back, I listened to The Signal podcast… a fan podcast about Serenity/Firefly. Some people have too much time on their hands. Including me, because I found myself fascinated, especially in the analysis of the timeline… calculating when things happened based on lines from the movies and tv shows. Mal is 50! Who knew?
1There was a comic book I used to read… Flash? Fantastic Four? Don’t remember. Anyway, in the letters section, if a reader could point out an error in a comic, they would win a valuable No Prize. Which was, essentially, no prize. But it was an official No Prize.
1. The “No Prize” was a Marvel Comics thing, so it you probably read it on the Fantastic Four Fan Page or “Sock it to Shell-Head” (The “Iron Man” letters page).
2. Maybe your parents were fans of Ray Jay Johnston: “Oh, you can call me Ray. Or you can call me Jay…”
3. Has John Gregorio been around? Isn’t he part of ‘The Nuclear Family?’
1. Must’ve been Fantastic Four. That and the Flash were my only comic book ventures.
2. One can only hope not.
3. Yes indeed! And a fine show he put on on Thursday night.
Comics
Hey, have you ever read Understanding Comics by some guy? I saw it in the design section at Borders when I was looking at books about graphic and instructional design. I am thinking about reading it– in the context of storyboard creation.
Re: Comics
I have, and it’s awesome. loaned it to me several years ago.
Run, don’t walk.
Re: Comics
‘Understanding Comics’ is GREAT — feel free to borrow it.
‘Reinventing Comics,’ its follow-up, is also really good. Part of it speculates about the future of comics on the Internet and speculates about “micropayments” — directly paying the creator, say, 25 cents for a new issue, as opposed to a much higher price to a publisher. It may not be a viable model for comics, but it intriguingly anticipates the whole single-song download/iTunes-type paradigms.
douglas? dentailia?
Both fine names.
But why D is the question.
The hint is that my son’s name is Roan Atticus Colosa Lucas, Colosa being my wife’s maiden name and would most certainly compose part of the name of the hypothetical second child.
Also, I’m an electrical engineer.
ah, well i did answer this post in a half alseep stupor. so perhaps i’ll be less dense next time and catch the clue.
Based on the clues provided thus far, I’m guessing that Number One Son has middle initials of AC and hypothetical 2nd child would have middle initials of DC. And I know that you are a fan of late 70s, early 80s hard rock.
Back in black / hit the sack / bet you know / I’m glad to be back…
BTW, David is a pretty good middle name. I’ve been using it as a middle name for more than three decades with no major problems.
Indeed, that is correct, though not for the reasons you facetiously hypothesized.
David is a fine, upstanding name, and were it not for my rule of not choosing any names that appear in this list of first names, I’d be all for it.
Why are you excluding specifically the 1990 census?
