3 western states to vote on pot proposals

Oct. 10, 2004 | PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Bush administration’s war on drugs stretches deep into Asia and Latin America, yet one of its most crucial campaigns _ in the eyes of drug czar John Walters _ is being waged this fall among voters in Oregon, Alaska and Montana.

In each state, activists seeking to ease drug laws have placed a marijuana-related proposal on the Nov. 2 ballot as part of a long-running quest for alternatives to federal drug policies they consider harsh and ineffective.

If all three measures are approved, Montana would become the 10th state to legalize pot for medical purposes, Oregon would dramatically expand its existing medical-marijuana program, and Alaska would become the first state to decriminalize marijuana altogether.

Yay! It’s about time somebody stood up and said, folks… we’ve outlawed a plant.

Disclosure: I have never used marijuana, nor any other illegal drug. I did have a wine cooler once, before I was 21. I do own a hemp shirt, though.

  • I’m never taking 285 to work again. Going south on 85 and catching 400 at Lenox takes my commute from 50 minutes to 35.
  • I burned a DVD last night! Even though my computer is 100MHz below the “minimum system requirement” of the LG DVD Burner. Ha-HA!

Some Useful Information

I went to a power supply design seminar last week.

I got some useful information about safety. This handy chart was in the book we got:

THRESHOLD VALUES OF ELECTRICAL CURRENT
Current (mA)         Effect
0.0 to 0.5              Perception, minimal reaction
0.5 to 3.5              Startle Reaction, but ability to tolerate
3.5 to 10               Muscles contract, inability to let go
10 to 50                Fibrillation, cell damage

Now, current happens because of voltage. For safety, regulations say we need to prevent people from coming in contact with anything that would generate more than 2.0 mA of DC current. They recommend protecting anything higher than 43V peak ac or 60V dc.

Just so you know. Stay away from those 110vac outlets, which are actually something like 170 pk vac.

It’s not a particularly brilliant song, but it is well-suited to the show. I’ve watched all 15 episodes of this series over the last couple weeks, so it’s been burned into my brain.

I guess it’s better than If You’re Happy and You Know It, which is the song it replaced.
